Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-22
This Privacy Policy explains how Japan Poker handles information when you use japan-poker.com or the Japan Poker mobile venue-directory app, browse venue listings, search for nearby venues, save favourites or contact us. “We”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of Japan Poker.
1. Information handled by the website and app
- Browsing and technical information. Our website and hosting services process information such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser and device details, request times and security-related events to deliver the website, maintain its reliability and prevent abuse.
- Searches. Area, station, venue-name and other search terms are sent to the website to return relevant listings. Search terms may appear in page URLs and server logs. Please do not enter sensitive personal information in search fields.
- Optional location information. If you select “Near me” and allow your browser to share your location, your latitude and longitude are sent to Japan Poker’s search service to find nearby venues. This feature does not need your location unless you choose to use it. Search requests and temporary cached results may be processed by our server. You can refuse or revoke location permission in your browser and continue searching by area.
- Messages you send. If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and any name, attachments or other information you choose to provide.
- Venue information. The directory displays business information, including venue names, addresses, maps, opening hours and official links where available. Contact us if a listing contains personal information that needs to be corrected or removed.
2. Mobile app: location, favourites and deletion
Location-based venue search
The Japan Poker app uses your device location to help find nearby poker venues when you choose the location-based search feature and grant the requested permission. The location available to the app depends on your device settings, including whether you allow approximate or precise location. You can decline location permission and use area or keyword search instead.
To stop further access, change the app’s location permission in your device settings. On Android, open Settings > Apps > Japan Poker > Permissions > Location and choose Don’t allow. On iPhone, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Japan Poker and select Never. Menu names may vary by device and operating-system version. Revoking permission stops future access; it does not by itself erase earlier server requests or logs.
The mobile app sends your selected search terms, region and language to the Japan Poker API over HTTPS. When you allow nearby search, it also sends the latitude and longitude provided by your device without rounding them first. These values are included in request URLs and may be retained in hosting access logs together with your IP address and request time. Logs are used to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service; temporary search results may also be cached for performance. Server logs are separate from favourites and settings stored on your device. See Section 7 for retention information.
Favourites stored on your device
The app saves your favourites locally on your device so that you can return to selected venues. These saved selections are device-local app data, rather than a favourites list stored in a Japan Poker user account. Device or operating-system backups may include app data depending on your backup settings; restoring a backup may restore saved selections.
How to delete locally saved favourites and app data
- Android: open Settings > Apps > Japan Poker > Storage (or Storage & cache), then select Clear storage or Clear data. This resets locally stored favourites and other app settings. Clear cache alone is not the same as clearing app data.
- iPhone: open Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Japan Poker > Delete App to remove the app and its local data. Offload App keeps documents and data, so it is not the appropriate option for deleting saved favourites.
- Backups and other devices: deleting local app data does not necessarily remove copies in device backups or on another device. Manage those separately in your Apple or Google backup settings and on each device.
Clearing app data or deleting the app does not delete correspondence you previously sent to Japan Poker or information already held in server logs. For requests concerning that information, use the privacy contact button at the end of this policy. You do not need to email us to clear favourites stored on your own device.
3. How we use information
We use information to provide the directory and search features, respond to enquiries and correction requests, understand how the website is used, improve its content and performance, protect the service against misuse, and meet applicable legal obligations. Browsing the directory does not require a visitor account.
4. Google Analytics and cookies
This website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand visits and interactions. The analytics tag loads when pages are visited and may use cookies, including cookies whose names begin with _ga, to distinguish browsers and sessions. Information processed by Google Analytics can include pages viewed, interaction events, device and browser information, language, referral information and approximate location.
The website’s analytics configuration disables Google signals and advertising-personalisation signals. Its initial page-view configuration omits URL query strings and fragments from the page URL and referrer sent to Analytics. This does not mean that all website or hosting logs are anonymous.
You can manage or delete cookies in your browser and use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on where supported. Blocking analytics does not prevent you from browsing the directory. Learn how Google handles information in Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
WordPress may also use cookies when authorised administrators sign in. Those cookies support authentication and administration rather than the public venue search.
The native Japan Poker mobile app does not include a Google Analytics SDK. If you open this website in your browser, the website analytics described in this section apply to that visit.
5. Maps and external links
Venue detail pages contain embedded Google Maps. When a map loads, your browser connects to Google, which may receive your IP address, browser information and other request data and may use cookies under its own policies. Opening a Google Maps link, an official venue website, X, Instagram or another external link takes you to a third-party service. Its own privacy policy applies to your activity there.
In the iPhone app, choosing directions opens Apple Maps with the selected venue’s address or coordinates. Your activity in Apple Maps is handled under Apple’s privacy policy.
Contacting or booking directly with a venue is separate from using this directory. Information that you provide directly to a venue is handled by that venue.
6. Service providers and disclosures
Information may be processed by the hosting, email, analytics and other technical service providers used to operate the website. Google processes data in connection with Analytics and Maps as described above. We may also disclose information when required by law, to respond to a lawful request, or where necessary to protect rights, safety or the security of the service.
Service providers may process information outside Japan, including in countries with different data-protection rules. The providers’ policies explain their processing practices and applicable safeguards.
7. Retention and security
Retention depends on the type of information, the purpose for which it is processed, service-provider settings and applicable obligations. Enquiry correspondence may be retained to answer and follow up on a request; technical logs, backups and analytics data follow their respective system retention settings. Temporary search caches are used for performance. Contact us for information about data associated with a specific request.
We use access controls and other reasonable measures to protect information. No website, email service or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Please do not email passwords, payment-card details or identity documents unless a specific need and secure method have been agreed.
8. Your choices and requests
You can use browser settings to manage cookies and location permissions. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to request access to, correction or deletion of personal information, restriction of processing, or other remedies. To make a request, contact Japan Poker using the contact button below and describe the information or listing concerned. We may request proportionate information to verify that we are responding to the correct person. You may also contact the relevant data-protection authority where applicable.
9. Updates to this policy
We may update this policy when the website’s features, information practices or applicable requirements change. The date above identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated as required by applicable law.
10. Contact Japan Poker
For app support, general feedback, feature requests, privacy enquiries or requests about personal information, select the button below to reveal our contact email. The address is not displayed in the page’s initial text to help reduce automated collection. This is a spam-reduction measure, not a guarantee that the address cannot be collected.
Data sources

Osaka City region detection
Osaka City region detection uses Japan Poker adaptations of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) National Land Numerical Information Administrative Area Data (2020), via niiyz/JapanCityGeoJson.

These boundary data support regional searches. They may contain geographic inaccuracies, omissions or outdated information. They do not provide venue coordinates and are not intended for surveying, boundary certification or precise navigation. The source data remain subject to the linked conditions.
Romanized municipality names
Some municipality names are derived from Japan Post’s romanized postal-code data and adapted by Japan Poker. Japan Post permits redistribution of these postal-code data without asserting copyright.
Anonymous venue interaction counts
Japan Poker records daily totals of venue details opened, directions, official website, X, Instagram and favorite actions, separated by app/web and display language. No personal identifier, advertising ID, GPS coordinates, search text or destination URL is included in these counters. Only site administrators can access the reports. Counts are retained for 365 days. App users can disable anonymous usage counts in Settings. Web counting respects the browser Do Not Track setting. Existing server access logs are governed by the hosting policy.
Station data
Some nearby stations are inferred by Japan Poker from venue coordinates, including approximate town-level locations, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism National Land Numerical Information Railway Data 2025 (as of 2025-12-31). This is not a verified walking route or entrance distance. Areas without local rail service are labelled accordingly.
